Vokyl Privacy Policy

Vokyl is a private, local-first conversation memory app for iPhone and Apple Watch. This policy explains the information Vokyl handles, where it goes, and the choices available to you.
Who we are and the short version
Vokyl is developed by SplendidBit (com.splendidbit.vokyl). There is no Vokyl account, advertising, behavioral analytics, cross-app tracking, or Vokyl-operated server that receives recordings, transcripts, or tasks.
Vokyl processes conversation content on your iPhone by default. Information leaves your devices only through the Apple services needed to provide a feature, a private iCloud backup, a model-asset download that contains no conversation content, or an external destination you choose.
Information stored on your devices
When you explicitly start a recording or import an audio file, Vokyl may store:
- The original audio and an optional cleaned listening copy created only when you tap Voice Clarity
- An on-device transcript, speaker labels, summaries, decisions, lecture notes, and suggested tasks
- Tags and optional mathematical voice embeddings used to remember speakers
- Optional recording coordinates, if you turn on location and grant permission
- Task-destination settings, delivery receipts, playback positions, and similar preferences
- A Todoist authorization token in the iOS Keychain, if you connect Todoist
Recordings are always started by you and remain visibly active, including through system recording indicators and a Live Activity when available. Audio recorded on Apple Watch is transferred to its paired iPhone for processing.
Local processing and model downloads
- Transcription uses Apple on-device speech technologies after any required Apple speech assets are downloaded.
- Summaries, decisions, lecture notes, and task suggestions use Apple on-device Foundation Models on supported hardware, with local heuristics otherwise.
- Speaker separation runs through Core ML on your iPhone. The speaker-model files may download from the model host when first needed. The host receives a normal network request for those files, but Vokyl does not send it your audio, transcript, speaker names, or voice embeddings.
- Voice Clarity is a manual process performed on your iPhone. Vokyl preserves the original recording.
When information leaves your devices

Location is off by default. If you enable it and grant Location When In Use access, Vokyl requests a single, neighborhood-level coordinate when recording begins. It stores the coordinates with that conversation for the map card. Vokyl does not reverse-geocode or send those coordinates to SplendidBit. Opening the map card sends the selected coordinates to Apple Maps under Apple's terms.
App Store privacy disclosure
Because the optional Todoist feature stores approved task fields with a third-party account, Vokyl declares Other User Content as collected for App Functionality, linked to the user's Todoist identity, and not used for tracking. Content that remains only on your devices or in your private Apple services is not collected by SplendidBit.
Permissions and your choices
Vokyl may request Microphone, Speech Recognition, Location When In Use, and Reminders access. Permissions are requested when relevant to a feature and can be changed in iOS Settings. You can also:
- Turn iCloud Backup and recording location on or off in Vokyl Settings
- Disconnect Todoist, which removes its token from this device; tasks already sent to Todoist remain in Todoist until you delete them there
- Choose whether supporting evidence accompanies a task sent to Reminders or Todoist
- Forget individual remembered voices
- Select how long raw and cleaned audio are kept
- Delete individual conversations
Declining an optional permission disables only the feature that needs it. A Vokyl Pro subscription does not require location, Reminders, Todoist, or remembered voices.
Retention and deletion
By default, recordings and derived content remain until you delete them. You can instead set audio retention to 7, 30, or 90 days. That setting removes original and cleaned audio after the chosen period; transcripts and structured conversation content remain until you delete the conversation.
Deleting a conversation removes its audio and derived content from the iPhone. While iCloud Backup is enabled, the next successful backup mirror removes that conversation and its audio from Vokyl's iCloud container. If backup was disabled before deletion, the older iCloud copy is not refreshed; re-enable backup after deleting so the removal can sync, or remove Vokyl's stored iCloud data through your Apple Account storage controls. Uninstalling Vokyl removes local app data but does not by itself delete an existing iCloud backup.
Information you previously sent to Reminders, Todoist, or another share destination is controlled by that destination and must be deleted there.
Security
Vokyl uses iOS Data Protection for its local archive and recordings and Keychain for Todoist credentials. No security measure is absolute, so keep your device, Apple Account, and any connected service accounts protected.
Service providers and their protection of information
- Apple provides App Store billing and entitlement verification, speech assets, on-device Foundation Models, Reminders, Apple Maps, Watch connectivity, and the user's private iCloud Drive container.
- Todoist receives only the information described above when you connect it or approve a task for delivery.
- FluidAudio / FluidInference and its model host provide the on-device speaker-separation software and model files. Conversation content is not uploaded for this feature. See the third-party notices.
SplendidBit requires service providers that receive user information through Vokyl to handle it consistently with their applicable terms, privacy policies, and legal obligations. Their own policies govern information retained in their services.
Website
The Vokyl product, privacy, terms, and support pages do not intentionally use advertising cookies or behavioral tracking. The hosting provider may process limited network information such as IP address and browser headers to deliver and protect the pages. If site analytics or a support form is added later, this policy will be updated before those features are enabled.
Children
Vokyl is not directed at children under 13.
Recording responsibly
Recording-consent laws vary. You are responsible for giving notice and obtaining every consent required where you record.
Changes
We may update this policy as Vokyl changes. We will update the date above and make the current version publicly available. Material changes will be explained in the app or on the website when appropriate.
